The name of this ride will be obvious to the adventurous and conditioned cyclist choosing the 100 mile route. Experience some of the most beautiful, rugged and hostile landscape in the country. It’s the perfect location for the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. Fortunately, the roads are well maintained, the descents are fast and the climbs separate whoever needs to be separated. The 70 mile route is not for the faint of heart. Although you won't pass by the penitentiary, or be attacked by the Frozen Head assent, you still have plenty of climbs, descents, navigational challenges and awesome scenery. The decision point to go for the 100 or settle for the 72 mile route comes at 26 miles into the ride. Just ask yourself, “Do I Feel Lucky...Today.” Don't forget the outdorr cafe' "Choices" just past Oliver Springs for a nice rest stop to enjoy a light breakfast and regroup with friends.
The 50 mile route shares the first 17 miles then detours through Oak Ridge before picking up the final 20 miles of the main loop. All will enjoy this early morning ride. This challenging event is well suited for experienced and conditioned cyclists capable of handling emergency repairs, familiar with road etiquette and physically conditioned for this challenge. Convenience stores are located on the route for your personal food and drink supplies. Local sheriffs are anticipating cyclists and hopefully won't mistake you for escapees.
